Discover [your] True North at Ohio Northern. The
department of art & design is housed in the Wilson Art Center for the
Visual Arts, providing students with updated equipment and a stimulating
environment in which to work.
Our facilities include a graphic design computer lab that contains G5 Power Macintosh computers, scanners, color and black and white laser printers, digital cameras and updated software.
The multimedia design and photography studios are housed in the technology studies department.
The art education studio is well equipped with drafting tables and group work stations/tables.
The printmaking studio has printing presses for lithography, intaglio, etching, relief and silkscreen processes. A darkroom for photographic techniques also is housed in the printmaking studio.
The drawing and painting studios are well-equipped with drawing tables, easels and storage space to meet the individual needs of students.
The ceramic studio has a large hand building area as well as several potters wheels. Clay making and glaze mixing are available to students interested exploring materials. The kiln room has two electric kilns capable of cone 10 glaze firing, an updraft gas kiln and a downdraft car kiln. Located outside are salt/soda and sagger kilns for specific firing effects.
The sculpture studio has areas for
working with plaster, wax, carving and modeling. Welding stations and a
woodshop complete the studio. Outside there is a burnout kiln and furnace for
bronze casting. Work with precious and semiprecious metals is handled in the
small metals studio.
Our own visual resource library contains thousands of slides to numerous videotapes and books for instruction. All students have email access and entry to the major collections located in the Heterick Memorial Library.
The Elzay Gallery of Art is connected to the Wilson Art Center by a loggia. The gallery displays work of artists of invited exhibitions throughout the year.
