Expert on U.S.-Africa Relations to Speak

Dr. Robert Waters, visiting assistant professor of history at Ohio Northern University, will lecture on "U.S. Relations with Africa: History, Policy, Future" during the Phi Beta Delta International Forum in The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration, room 230, on Tuesday, March 24, from 7-8 p.m.

Waters will examine the often-surprising story of U.S. relations with Africa, with a focus on the years since World War II. He also will discuss the future of Africa, as well as the United States' experience with its first African-American president.

Continuous Achievement Scholarship Honors Academic Improvement

After four years of planning, Ohio Northern is now offering the Continuous Achievement Scholarship to one student in each undergraduate college.

ONU Names Arts & Sciences Dean

Catherine Albrecht, Ph.D., has been named dean of Ohio Northern University's Getty College of Arts & Sciences, effective Aug. 1. The college has a faculty of 135 and 15 departments offering more than 50 majors and concentrations.

Albrecht succeeds Dr. Robert A. Manzer, who accepted a position as vice president for academic affairs at St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. Dr. Lisa G. Robeson, associate professor of English, has served as interim dean since July 2008.

PoliSci Honor Society Awarded Research Grant

For the seventh-consecutive year, the ONU chapter of the political science honor society Pi Sigma Alpha has received a grant through the society's national office. This year, the ONU chapter received $1,279 to conduct research on the 2008 Electoral College.

Dr. Robert Alexander, BA '94, associate professor of political science and the chapter advisor, said that, with the recent presidential election and meeting of the Electoral College, it "made sense" to make it the focus of Pi Sigma Alpha's research.

Grant Funds Political Research

Dr. Rob Alexander, BA '94, associate professor of political science, and his students have received a $1,279 grant from the national office of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honorary. The funds will help conduct research on the 2008 Electoral College.

Shaili Patel, a third-year pharmacy student from Mannheim, Ontario, Canada, co-authored the grant proposal.
