Amar to Speak at ONU Kormendy Lecture

“Ohio and the Electoral College: Past, Present and Future” is the title of discussion by Akhil Reed Amar at the 2006 Kormendy Lecture in the Ohio Northern University Pettit College of Law moot court room (129) on Monday, Oct. 23 at 4 p.m. Professor Amar will sign copiesof his book, "America's Constitution: A Biography," following the lecture.The event is free and open to the public.

Frankie Avalon to Appear at ONU

Ohio Northern University will present Frankie Avalon in the Biggs Theater of the ONU Freed Center of the Performing Arts on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m.

One of a number of teen idols to come out of Philadelphia in the 1950s and 1960s, Avalon made his name with his distinct voice and the popular beach movies with co-star Annette Funicello.

Continuing Legal Education Offered at ONU

The Ohio Northern University chapter of Phi Alpha Delta will sponsor its annual CLE event at the ONU College of Law on Oct. 13, 2006. The event entitled, “Avoiding Wrongful Convictions in Criminal Cases,” will include presentations on false confessions, faulty defense counsel practices, eyewitness identification procedures, and forensic science issues.

ONU Receives Record $10 Million Gift

Ohio Northern University alumnus Clayton L. Mathile and his wife Mary Ann Mathile have pledged $5 million plus an additional $5 million in matching funds for the construction of science education and research facilities on the ONU campus.

“This extraordinary gift, the largest in ONU history, will enable the university to both enlarge and enhance our science and math programs,” says Ohio Northern President Kendall L. Baker.

ONU Presents Panel Discussion on Constitution

A panel discussion on the U.S. Constitution will be held on Sept. 18 in Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be moderated by ONU Professor of Law Scott Gerber.

University Singers Tour Includes Ohio Schools and Churches

The University Singers of Ohio Northern University will present their annual fall tour from Wednesday, Oct. 25 through Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006. The home concert will be Sunday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Presser Hall. The 50 -voice choir is under the direction of Dennis L. Kratzer, director of choral activities and professor of music.

ONU student wins video production competition

Evan Sterling, a senior broadcasting and electronics media student from Sterling, Pa., received first place honors in the Association for Higher Education Association (AHECTA) 2006 Student Production Competition.

Sterling was recognized in the news feature category for his video, “Environment and You: Hybrids.” His video is also a finalist in the College Broadcasters, Inc. student production competition, with the winner to be named at their annual convention in October.

SMArts Combines Art and Academics
