ONU Named 2009 Tree Campus USA University by Arbor Day Foundation

Tree Campus USAThe Arbor Day Foundation has honored Ohio Northern University as a 2009 Tree Campus USA university for its dedication to campus forestry management and environmental stewardship.

Ohio Northern is the second institution in Ohio to be named a Tree Campus USA campus or university and among a handful in the nation, joining such institutions as Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech.

ONU Baja Team Ranks 17th at Regional Competition

Ohio Northern University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja team placed 17th overall at the regional Baja SAE® competition held June 11-14. The team also took 9th in the endurance portion of the competition. 100 teams traveled from across the globe, including the United States, Canada, North Korea, El Salvador and Mexico to Burlington, Wis., for the event.

Physics Department a part of Mathile project

The Physics Department is now new and improved. As part of the Mathile project the physics department was remodeled during the summer of '08, creating a study lounge, a seminar room, and more research labs and offices. In 2009 we will gain three laboratory rooms in Meyer Hall.

ONU experimenT (DONUT) selected for December 2008 issue of Physics Today

Research from the Dusty ONU experimenT (DONUT) on two-dimensional melting in dusty plasma has been selected for the Physics Update section of the December 2008 issue of Physics Today. According to the American Institute of Physics: "Physics Today is the most-frequently cited magazine in multidisciplinary physics, reaching more than 120,000 scientists and engineers at university, government, and industrial labs in 151 countries."

James Gallagher Selected as 2009 Goldwater Scholar

Physics major James Gallagher has been selected as a 2009 Goldwater Scholar by the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Excellence in Education. Congratulations!

ONU Hosts Ohio-region Section American Physical Society

ONU Physics hosted the spring 2009 meeting of the Ohio-region Section of the American Physical Society on April 24-25. A good time was had by all.

Ceramics Professor Accepted into National Juried Competition

H. Luke Sheets, an assistant professor in art at Ohio Northern University, has had his work accepted into the Majestic Galleries' National Juried Competition 2009.

Sheets' piece, "Hound of War," is a mixed-media sculpture.

The competition is in its fourth year at the Majestic Galleries in Nelsonville, Ohio. The show opens Friday, June 26, with a reception and awards presentation from 6-10 p.m. The show closes on Sunday, July 26. Gallery hours are Fridays through Sundays from 1-6 p.m.

Ohio Northern University to Host U.S.-Japan Summer Camp

U.S. high school students will have the opportunity to learn Japanese, experience Japanese culture and earn college credit at the U.S.-Japan Summer Camp, scheduled from July 19 through Aug. 1 on the Ohio Northern University campus in Ada.

Limited to 20 students (high school freshmen through seniors), the camp is dedicated to fostering scholarship, enhancing language skills and promoting cross-cultural understanding. In addition to academic coursework, students will take part in cultural dinners, discussions and field trips.
