American, Japanese Students Share Cultures at ONU Kasukabe Summer Camp

American and Japanese students will convene at Ohio Northern University for the Kasukabe-U.S. Summer Camp to be held July 24-Aug. 12.

Sixteen American high school students from across the country and 20 Japanese high school students from the Saitama Prefecture in Japan will engage in cultural activities unique to each country. The camp is dedicated to fostering scholarship, enhancing language skills and promoting cross-cultural understanding

Dr. Robeson Named Interim Dean of Arts & Sciences

Dr. Lisa G. RobesonLisa G. Robeson, Ph.D., associate professor of English, has been named as interim dean of Ohio Northern University's Getty College of Arts & Sciences, effective July 7. The college has 15 departments offering over 50 majors and concentrations and a faculty of 135.

Religion Professor is Project Director for $20,000 Grant

Dr. Forrest J. Clingerman, assistant professor of religion at Ohio Northern University, is the project director for a $20,000 grant from the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Religion and Theology.

The grant supports "Pedagogies for Civic Engagement: Developing Strategies Within and Beyond the Religious Studies Classroom." It also funds two meetings of scholars of religious and theological studies to explore a range of strategies for civic engagement. The meetings will be held in Chicago in November 2008 and Montreal in November 2009.

Chemistry Professor Receives $5,000 Grant

Dr. Jake Zimmerman, assistant professor of chemistry at Ohio Northern University, has been awarded $5,000 from Teledyne Isco of Lincoln, Neb.

The chemistry department will use part of the grant to purchase a CombiFlash Companion, an instrument used during teaching and research to purify organic compounds. The grant also will allow the department to use in other ways the funds it had originally set aside for the instrument's purchase.

Keiser is President-elect of Ohio Academy of Science

Terry D. Keiser, professor of biological sciences and chair of the department of biological and allied health sciences at Ohio Northern University, has been named the 2008-2009 president-elect of the Ohio Academy of Science.

Keiser is a fellow of the academy and has been active in the organization for more than 40 years. He was a member of the Junior Academy Council for 30 years and served as vice president of the natural resources section. He also has been published in the academy's journal.

The Ohio Northern University department of art and design will host the annual Foundations Honors Exhibit on Monday, May 12 through Friday, Aug. 29 in the lobby of the Elzay Gallery of Art.

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Stratton to Speak at Undergraduate Commencement

Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2008 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Sports Center.

About 600 students will be awarded degrees.

ONU PRSSA Student Named Outstanding Graduate

Ohio Northern University senior, Megan May a communications arts major from Rawson, Ohio, has won the central Ohio Public Relations Society of America's "Outstanding Graduate PRISM Award."

This marks the second consecutive year an ONU student has been awarded this distinction. Last year, Kevin Saghy '07, garnered the honor.

ONU Symphony Celebrates American Music

The Ohio Northern University Symphony presents "Springtime Voyage," a tour of American music, in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday, May 10, at 8 p.m.

Conductor Lloyd Butler will guide the Symphony through a night of breathtaking symphonic music. The Symphony will be joined by the winners of the 2007-2008 Midwest Young Artists Concerto Competition.

High School Students Invited to Attend Japanese Summer Camp at ONU
