The Sixth Annual International Playwriting Festival

Kara

Every year Ohio Northern hosts an International Playwriting festival. Works are commissioned from international playwrights and are produced as an evening of One Acts.

This year’s festival brings together two playwrights from either side of the border – Berta Hiriart from Mexico and Elaine Romero from Tucson, Arizona. “Dissolving Borders” focuses on the issues surrounding immigration, border politics and undocumented workers. Both Romero’s play “Undocumented” and Hiriat’s play, “On the Border,” will feature a medley of characters and view points that show that the story of the border and the people who live there is not black and white; not simply two point of views, but a myriad of perspectives that are real, human and complicated.

Furthering the cross-border collaborations, the plays will be directed by New York City-based director, Angel David, and will feature professional actors – one from Mexico and a Latina actress from the U.S., along with student actors.

Performance dates are: April 2-5, 2008, at 8 p.m. and April 5 and 6 at 2 p.m.
Tickets are available through the Freed Center box office.
