Musical Theatre

The musical theatre program at Ohio Northern University is one of the few programs in Ohio to offer a BFA degree. Three musicals a year are produced and are open to participation from any ONU student.

Theatre

The theatre program at Ohio Northern University is steeped in a heritage of both traditional and experimental theatre, and is supported by a vigorous production schedule and international study opportunities.

International Theatre Production

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in International Theatre Production at Ohio Northern University is a unique program focusing on the areas of theatrical design, production and stage management including the many variations of theatrical practice that occur in different areas of the world. By exploring the cultural and practical differences in theatre production, our students will gain a better understanding of not only theatre here in the United States, but also, overseas, and in the areas of opera and touring production.

Dance

Dance is offered as a minor at Ohio Northern. The program emphasizes a strong liberal arts education and also provides a flexible program that adapts easily to individual needs and interest while maintaining professional standards. Classes are offered in tap, ballet, modern and jazz dance.

2008-2009 Season

The Freed Center for the Performing Arts

Each season more than 30,000 people come to ONU’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts to enjoy superb entertainment, including well know headliners such as the hard rock, Irish jig-funk band The Prodigals, CeCe Winans, Rockappella, Don McLean, Kathy Mattea, and jazz great Ellis Marsalis.

The Freed Center is also the venue for at ten theatrical productions, many with international guest artists and directors, and upwards of forty instrumental and voice performances each season. Many guest artists, instrumentalists, and theatre and dance companies conduct master classes and perform onstage along with students.
