Nursing Program Mission
Ohio Northern University’s Nursing Program is committed to educating students for excellence in academic achievement and enabling them to work within diverse and changing roles as professional nurses and as committed citizens of the world.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
The program leading to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) provides educational opportunities to a diverse population of qualified students seeking to acquire the knowledge and skills required for employment as a registered nurse. Curriculum is designed to prepare students for entry into the modern healthcare workforce.
The first two years are dedicated to general, social science, and nursing science studies in order to create a solid foundation for advanced nursing courses. In recognition of the rapidly expanding Hispanic community, one year of Spanish language training is also required. Advanced nursing students divide their time between the classroom and the clinical setting, honing their skills in a variety of health care facilities.
Before taking the national licensure examination NCLEX-RN, students must maintain a minimum of a C average in ALL nursing courses, cognate and support courses, and selected general education courses, as well as successfully complete ALL clinical rotations.
Students may increase their professional marketability with the Business Option. The Business Option consists seven selected business courses in addition to the traditional BSN requirements.
The curriculum meets the Ohio Board of Nursing requirements for a Professional Nursing Education Program.
RN-BSN Nursing Completion Program
The RN-BSN completion track has been developed to meet the needs of the practicing nurse seeking a baccalaureate degree.
Consisting of 74 credit hours of study, the RN-BSN track is designed for completion in one calendar year with six eight-week terms. There are two clinical experiences within the curriculum (Community Health Nursing for the Registered Nurse and Transition to Professional Practice for the Registered Nurse). Classes are held offsite to facilitate easier access for the Registered Nurse.
Applicants seeking admission into the RN-BSN program must have an associate's degree or equivalent degree from a regionally accredited institution, and a current and unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse license.
