‘South Pacific’ Comes to ONU Stage
Ohio Northern University’s Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific.” Performances begin Thursday, Aug. 28, at 8 p.m., with subsequent shows Friday, Aug. 29, and Saturday, Aug. 30, both at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 31, at 2.p.m. The second showing will begin Friday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m., followed by performances Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 14, at 2 p.m.
ONU Music, Fine Arts Programs Ranked Among Top 200 in Nation
Two Ohio Northern University academic programs were mentioned in the second edition of "Creative Colleges: A Guide for Student Actors, Artists, Dancers, Musicians and Writers." The department of music, and the department of art and design were included in the list of the top 200 creative programs nationwide. Ohio Northern's theatre opportunities also were acknowledged.
ONU Students place in the Buckeye Chapter of NATS Student Auditions

On Saturday, April 12, 2008 ten Ohio Northern University students traveled to Bowling Green State University to compete in the Buckeye Chapter of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) Student Auditions. Student Auditions are held annually and sponsored by the Buckeye Chapter of NATS and sanctioned by the Great Lakes Region of the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
ONU Hosts Master Class with Phil Reno
Phil Reno, Broadway conductor, musical director and arranger, will present a master class for Ohio Northern University theatre, musical theatre and music students on Monday, Jan. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Biggs Theatre at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.
"We are very fortunate to have someone of his caliber come and work with our students," explained Kirsten E. Osbun-Manley, resident artist in music and lecturer in music and musical theatre at Ohio Northern.
Christmas Music at Ohio Northern
The annual Christmas Band Concert, featuring the ONU Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble, will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m. in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts.
The Christmas Band Concert features members of the ONU Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performing many popular holiday selections under the direction of Dr. Charles Bates. The concert is suitable for all ages.
Thirteenth Annual ONU Holiday Spectacular Scheduled
The Ohio Northern University Departments of Theatre and Music will present the 13th annual ONU Holiday Spectacular at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Nov. 30, at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 1, at 8 p.m.; and Sunday, December 2, at 2 p.m. The show also will be presented at the Veterans Memorial Civic and Convention Center in Lima on Friday, December 7, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 8, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 9, at 2 p.m.
ONU Marching Band to Perform in China
The Ohio Northern University Marching Band will travel to China to perform a series of shows from Nov. 15 through 23.
More than 100 members of the ONU Marching Band will make stops in Shanghai, where they will play at a late-morning parade/stand-still concert on the bustling Nanjing Road. The band also will play at the legendary Great Wall of China.
In recent years, the ONU Marching Band has performed in Rome, Hawaii, Paris, London and Canada.
