SingingThe music department exists within the framework of the University and the College of Arts and Sciences to provide a comprehensive course of study for aspiring music educators, performers, and composers. The department seeks to provide the experiences contributing most to the student's success in a meaningful career; one which satisfies the professional aspirations of the individual, contributes to the continued success of the field and services the cause of humanity.

The music department's first priority is education. The primary expectation of every member of the music faculty is success in the classroom. Teaching, as it is perceived by our department, is not limited to lectures and other classroom activities. It pervades every facet of our operation and is a direct result of our mission, goals and objectives.

All of our research and instructional activities are focused on the fusion of intellectual understanding, aptitudes and skills in the study, performance and enjoyment of music.

The department of music serves as the center of music activity and resources for the University and the surrounding community. Numerous concerts, recitals, lectures, lecture-recitals and stage productions are offered to stimulate an interest in the musical arts and to enhance the cultural climate of all individuals within the university's sphere of influence.

In keeping with the university's mission, all Ohio Northern students should exist in an environment which is appreciative and supportive of the arts.

Ohio Northern University is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The music department offers the Bachelor of Music degree in music education, performance, composition, music with elective studies in business, and the Bachelor of Arts in music. Seventeen musical organizations are open to all students.
