Teacher candidates in Integrated Language Arts complete an approved program of coursework, field experiences, and other requirements leading to the application for an initial Provisional Ohio Teaching License for grades 7-12 Language Arts. Candidates major in Language Arts Education in the Department of English (http://english.onu.edu/). Other coursework includes general education classes such as western civilization, philosophy, art, music, science and mathematics, and others, as well as professional education coursework in culture and schooling, adolescent development, exceptional learners, technology, curriculum, classroom strategies, methods of teaching, and more. In addition, candidates spend time throughout the program in local classrooms completing professional experience requirements.
