NCATE Accreditation

The Center for Teacher Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Professional accreditation is one way to ensure that schools of education are graduating well-qualified teachers ready for today’s classrooms. ONU’s Center for Teacher Education has proven its commitment to producing quality teachers by achieving accreditation under the performance-oriented standards of NCATE.

The U.S. Department of Education recognizes NCATE as a specialized accrediting body for schools, colleges, and departments of education. NCATE is composed of more than 30 professional and policymaker organizations representing millions of Americans committed to quality teaching. It was founded in 1954 by the teaching profession and the states. NCATE continues its mission today: the profession and states working together for excellence in teacher preparation and development. "Coming from two content areas (Technology Education and Physical Education) where all my classes weren't in Dukes it was hard to get my education questions answered in those departments. Everytime I went into the Education Department I was always greeted and pointed in the direction to which my questions could be answered. Everyone in the Education Department is always willing to help you with anything you need."
