Our Department

The academic programs in the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts blend the traditional arts approach with specific skills training, an ambitious production schedule in theatre, visiting artist program, international opportunities and high-level internships.

The department is housed in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts, which includes a main and studio theatres, cable television studio, broadcast radio station, dance studio, computer lab, scene and costume shops, dressing rooms, fully equipped classrooms and offices. The facility features the latest technical support for each of the six programs it houses.

Programs Offered

  • BA - Theatre, Professional and Organization Communication, Public Relations, and Broadcasting and Electronic Media
  • BFA - Musical Theatre, International Theatre Production
  • Dance - Minor offered

Talent Awards

Talent Awards are available to admitted students who plan to major in any of the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts concentrations, including the minor in dance and who demonstrate a special talent. Following acceptance to the University, an audition or presentation of the appropriate credentials may be required. Contact the chairperson of the department (n-riess@onu.edu) for more information.
