Engineering Entrepreneurship Option

Students interested in entrepreneurship and majoring in the discipline of either civil, computer, electrical, or mechanical engineering should take the Entrepreneurship Option, offered by the College of Engineering. This option is similar to the minor, but it incorporates the senior capstone project credits of each engineering major into the option requirements. Each student in the College of Engineering completes a senior capstone project that entails working on a problem in a team-based environment for the nine-months of the senior year. Typically, this project is tied to an industrial sponsor. The required courses for the entrepreneurship option are:

• Microeconomics (IBEC 202)
• Introduction to Entrepreneurship (ABUS 222)
• Principles of Marketing (MRKT 351)
• New Venture Creation (ABUS 444)
• Two entrepreneurship electives (contact the College of Engineering for list)
• Capstone coursework for that student’s engineering discipline

Since the microeconomics and capstone coursework are already requirements for the four engineering majors, the entrepreneurship option requires only 20 additional credit hours of study.
