Food Service Safety

Sodexo provides food service on the Ohio Northern University campus.

There have been no reported cases of Sodexo employees with H1N1 flu and Sodexo requires its employees not to report for work if they are sick with any illness in order to prevent its spread.

It is important to note that this strain of H1N1 (swine flu) is passed from human to human, and not from eating infected pork products. However, to address public concerns, Sodexo also is reinforcing that all meat should be cooked thoroughly at the specified safe temperature for pork to ensure against any possible bacteria and other potentially infectious matter.

Here are reminders of things you can do to keep the dining areas at Ohio Northern University safe:

1. Hand washing is the most important tool we have to help reduce the spread of H1N1 (swine flu). Please wash your hands as often as possible for at least 20 seconds, using a paper towel to turn the faucet on and off.

2. Because you sometimes do not have the opportunity to wash your hands before entering the dining room, please be sure to use the hand sanitizer provided at the doors of the dining hall to reduce the possible spread of bacteria.

3. Please do not reuse plates when returning to the line for additional food items. Take a clean plate to eliminate cross contamination.

4. Please be sure to always use the utensils provided for the food. Never reach for the food or cookies with your bare hands.

By following these simple guidelines we can help to keep dining establishments safe. If you have any questions feel free to call Terri Mathis, General Manager, at 419-772-2415 or email at t-mathis@onu.edu.
