H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu)

World Health Organization (WHO) Alert Level 6

CDC: Today’s H1N1 Update

Dr. Baker's Letter On June 11, 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) raised the worldwide pandemic alert level to Phase 6 in response to the ongoing global spread of the novel influenza A (H1N1) virus. A Phase 6 designation indicates that a global pandemic is underway.

Although no cases of H1N1 Flu (swine flu) have been reported on the Ohio Northern University campus or in Hardin County, the University is implementing the initial steps of its emergency plan. This includes reminding students, faculty, staff and visitors of the importance of basic illness prevention measures:

1. Wash hands often and thoroughly
2. Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
4. Practice good health habits
5. Stay home when sick
6. Students who do not feel well should go to the Student Health Center

The University’s comprehensive plan includes monitoring overall student health and absenteeism and taking appropriate steps to prevent or slow influenza spread. Those measures can involve a number of steps, up to and including closing the campus and/or moving current classes to distance learning options.

Emergency supplies, food and support equipment and personnel are available, if needed.
